Today, Pastor Rafael Ruiz continued the series Restart with today’s message titled, Reborn. Pastor Rafael stated we need to be reborn to live the life God destined for us.
Reborn
“What do you mean? How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” said one perplexed scripture scholar named Nicodemus. Nicodemus struggled to understand Jesus’ words according to the teachings he had been accustomed too. Some concepts and ideas that God wants to teach us does not always fit in our structured human minds.
Jesus was introducing a concept that even today gives us plenty to think about; “Born again”. Let’s explore the following passage together.
John 3:5-7 “Jesus replied, I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, you must be born again.”
Imagine if you had the chance to begin your life again with all the knowledge that you currently possess. You would probably try to change some choices you regret, avoid certain pain points in your life, and even try to take advantage of what you know to get ahead. The problem is you are still human, prone to the same weaknesses, and mistakes. Jesus said, “Humans can reproduce only human life”, meaning we have limitations, due to our own nature, even with knowledge and are destined to repeat.
So, how do we break the cycle and redirect our destinies? Thankfully Jesus gave us the answer, “you must be born again.” We know it is impossible to be physically born again. But it is not impossible to begin a new life. Being born again only required two things, being born of water and the Spirit.
Jesus refer himself as the living water in John 7:38-39. He gave his life (Titus 3:5) to us and became the water of life that revives our souls, thirsty for eternal life. Jesus’ sacrificial death and gift of the Holy Spirit fills the emptiness in our souls. God gives himself to us through the Holy Spirt to clean our spirit and connect us to the Father.
Many experiences, hurts, and disappointments had shaped our perspectives on life. We mistakenly believe that the product of all our mistakes is who we are. We choose to believe that there is no chance of redemption. We are mistaken. A spiritual rebirth is a chance that God provides us to start over, break from what has defined us thus far, free us from sin, and become the person that God put in our bodies at the moment of conception. The real you, the you that God knew before you were even born. By being reborn you not only get the chance to be the real you, your purpose is also revealed (2 Corinthians 5:18-19) and a new life begins.
