Your Soul and Time Matters

In a world so full of distractions it is easy to become preoccupied . . . .

Easy to pull up our favorite social media app and scroll or let the videos play. Easy to listen to all the people around us but not take a moment to listen to God.

Is it so easy to focus on what will make me happy, and obsess over our desires of things we want to buy or things we want to achieve.

To make matters worse, we are tracked on the internet and products we look at once are now being flashed across our screens as ads. If you are subscribed to marketing emails, you may be receiving promotional emails nonstop. It’s hard to get away. The more technologically advanced we become, the further we are being pulled away from God.

The result of interacting with technology leads us to become less focused on creating deep relationships and we lose focus on our own mental health. We lose the feeling of contentment.

We have to make the conscious decision to separate ourselves from our phones, screens, apps, and let go of the next hit of instant gratification. We need to center our focus on what cannot be seen, the state of our soul and our relationship with our Creator.

Mark 8:34 “. . . If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”

Mark 8:35 “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

Mark 8:36-37 “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” NIV

Reading these verses really made me pause and they’ve been on my mind a lot lately. Am I investing in myself and in my future with Christ? Or am I investing in what the world has to offer and allowing myself to become distanced from Christ. There should be no doubt about your soul being valuable, Jesus told us nothing is worth more than our soul. Let’s make the conscious decision to take time each day to pray, read scripture, and connect with God. The future of our souls depends on what we do now.

It’s time to pay attention to your soul. God is waiting to connect with you.
